What I Wish I Knew: Lessons for My Fellow Teens
Teenage
years are a whirlwind of experiences—moments of learning, stumbling, growing,
and transforming into who you're meant to be. Looking back, there were
countless days when I found myself thinking, "If only I had known this
sooner." With that in mind, here’s my heartfelt list of lessons I wish
I had discovered earlier, shared just for you, my amazing teens. π₯°
Lesson 1:
Fail Forward: Embrace the Beauty of Mistakes
I have
always tried to be at the top of my class, get good grades, and make my parents
and teachers proud. I did not used to sleep enough, did not have a healthy
routine, and just overburdened myself for a few marks that won’t even matter in
a few years.
Growing up I
realized it’s okay to not sometimes be able to keep up to people's expectations.
Have a healthy routine, work on yourself, and have a growth mindset—that is,
try to be a better version of yourself each day.
What has
failure taught you about yourself?
Lesson 2:
Seasonal Friendships: Letting Go to Grow
Not all
friendships are meant to last forever, and that’s perfectly normal. Some people
are in your life for a season, to teach you something or share a moment.
Letting go of toxic friendships isn’t selfish—it’s self-care.
I’ve lost
many friends over the years, but one friendship has stayed etched in my
heart—my childhood best friend. We went to the same school, shared countless
memories, and promised each other that we’d never lose touch. But life had
other plans.
She moved to
another city, and though we never spoke again, her friendship left me with a
profound lesson: not every promise withstands the test of time. People drift
apart, forget, and move on—and that’s okay. Every connection, no matter how
fleeting, shapes us in its own way, and I’ll always treasure what we shared.
Have you ever let go of a friendship? What did you learn from the experience?
Lesson 3: Comparison Detox: Celebrate Your Unique Journey
Scrolling through YouTube used to leave me feeling like everyone else had a perfect life. Here’s the truth: they don’t. Focus on your own path, celebrate your own wins, and remember that everyone’s highlight reel hides their struggles.
Social media is just a highlight reel—a curated glimpse of someone’s best moments, carefully edited to hide the struggles and behind-the-scenes. These days, more content creators are being honest and showing their real, unedited selves online. Look for these creators—they bring something refreshing in a world full of filters and perfect pictures.
We all try to fit ourselves in the mold but we need to know we all are built differently. We look different, we have different choices, and different beliefs and that what makes you one-of-a-kind. Own it, celebrate it, and let it shine!π
How do you stay focused on your own journey and avoid falling into the trap of comparison?

Lesson 4: Life's Puzzle: It's Okay to Be a Work in Progress
The pressure to decide your future at 15? Unreal. Life is a journey, not a checklist Right now, as an 11th grader, I’m still experimenting with my choices, exploring my likes, dislikes, and figuring out what truly excites me—and that’s perfectly normal. π
Among my friends, some dream of becoming doctors, others aspire to be engineers, and a few envision launching their own businesses. But here’s the beauty of it—we’re all still figuring it out. It’s okay to not know what you want to be when you “grow up.”
Explore, experiment, and give yourself the grace to change your mind. Because when you eventually find the thing that you love, the fulfillment and happiness will be worth every uncertain step you took to get there. Embrace the journey—it’s uniquely yours.π©΅
Have you ever felt the pressure to have everything figured out?
Lesson 5:
You First: Self-Care is Non-Negotiable
It’s not
selfish to prioritize your mental and physical well-being. Say no when you’re
overwhelmed. Take breaks when you need them. You can’t pour from an empty cup,
so make self-care non-negotiable!
In every
diary, journal, or notebook I write, I always save some space for self-love.
These pages hold words to lift me up, moments that make me smile, and reminders
of my inner strength. It’s where I reconnect with myself and my worth.
In my friend
group, everyone often points out how much I value self-care. They say it's one
of the things that truly stands out about me, and I can’t deny it—I believe in
making myself a priority and honestly being your priority is very attractive. I
get quite a lot of compliments about this! π

prioritize self-care in your daily life?

Lesson 6: Energy Shields Up: Protect Your Vibes
Your energy
is precious—spend it wisely. Surround yourself with people who uplift you and
support your goals. Learn to say no to toxic friendships, unnecessary drama,
and things that don’t align with your values. It’s not selfish; it’s
self-respect.π
The people
you surround yourself with have a profound influence on who you become. If your
friends aren’t encouraging your growth or helping you strive toward becoming
the best version of yourself, it might be time to reconsider the company you
keep.
True friends
should inspire, uplift, and support your journey—not hold you back. Choosing
the right people to share your time and energy with is essential for your
personal growth and happiness.π©·
In what ways
do you protect your energy and stay true to yourself?
Lesson 7:
Step Into Fear: Mistakes Are Your Best Teachers
Mistakes
aren’t failures—they’re lessons in disguise. Every time you stumble, you’re
learning, growing, and building resilience. Don’t be afraid to mess up; be
afraid of staying in the same place because you never tried I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone
and tried so many things I once feared.
One of them
was to start this blog. I had the idea in my mind for so long but I was afraid
at first. There were many questions in my mind but what you have to do is just
get started. Remember the lesson “The First Flight” where the seagull was terrified
of taking that initial leap?
It’s that
first step that feels the hardest, but everything after becomes easier. Now, as
I write this second post, I’m filled with happiness and pride. Taking that leap
was worth it, and I hope it inspires you to face your fears and try something
new—you never know what joys might be waiting for you just beyond that first
step.πΈ
Today, I
challenge you to face that fear and take the first step toward overcoming it.
Share your experience in the comments—let me know how you felt after taking
that bold step forward.πͺπ»

Lesson 8:
Raise Your Voice: Your
Opinion Can Change the World
Don’t let
anyone make you feel small. Speak up for what you believe in, whether it’s
standing against bullying, sharing your passions, or simply asking for help.
Your voice is powerful, and the world needs to hear it.π
I firmly
believe in this. As teenagers, it’s crucial for us to speak upπ£️against the
injustices we see around us. Taking a stand isn’t just about making our own
lives better—it’s about creating a positive impact for others as well.
By raising our voices and taking action, we learn the values of responsibility and empathy, shaping ourselves into proactive and engaged citizens. Together, we can contribute to building a society that’s fairer, stronger, and more united because the youth of the country shape the future of the world.ππ️π€
What’s one
moment when you used your voice to stand up for something important? How did it
feel?
Closing
Thoughts
Be patient
with yourself. You’re a work in progress, and every experience—good or bad—is
shaping the incredible person you’re destined to become. One advice to all my
fellow teens is every day is a change to be better. Keep working up yourself
and remember you have got this! ❤️
