How I Survived the Board Exam Frenzy: A Teenage Tale
Hey Unfiltered Teens!
How’s everyone doing? First off, I want to apologize for not posting last week. As most of you know, May 13th was the big day—the CBSE 10th result day!
The anticipation, the nerves, and finally, the results! Whether it was a day of celebration or reflection, I hope everyone found the strength to embrace their achievements and plan their next steps.
The
Build-Up to the Boards
Ah, the board exams. Just hearing those words can send a
shiver down the spine of any teenager in India. For months, the thought of the
exams loomed over me like an ominous storm cloud, fueling every conversation,
every glance from my parents, and every whispered rumor at school. But here I
am, alive and thriving, ready to share my survival story.
Finishing the 9th-grade finals feels like crossing a
marathon finish line, a moment to catch your breath and soak in the relief. But
before you know it, the whispers begin—board exams are coming. What should’ve
been a time to unwind and enjoy gets hijacked by endless reminders about the
upcoming storm. I still recall one of my neighbors, during a chat with my mom,
casually telling me, “Just ace the board exams, and you’ll have nothing else to
worry about.”
Well, here’s a reality check or a warning (whatever you name
it): life is never a neatly solved puzzle. It’s an ever-evolving journey, and
the sooner you embrace this truth, the better prepared you’ll be for what lies
ahead.
Pressure,
Panic, and Caffeine
As the new session began and I entered into my first class
for 10th we got a new teacher. He asked us about our 9th
marks and then became a motivational speaker. Honestly, all the teachers and my
parents suddenly acted in the same way. They turned into motivational speakers
(or stress amplifiers, depending on the day), and my friends and I became
nocturnal creatures living off coffee and panic. I felt like I was in a
pressure cooker about to explode. My caffeine consumption increased a little
more than usual. (Do control it. Too much caffeine is bad for health.) It all
started with the countdown—weeks turned into days, and soon it was just hours
before D-Day. Teachers kept piling on practice tests, mock exams, worksheets,
extra questions, and whatnot! I felt like a juggler trying to balance
textbooks, mock exams, and my sanity all at once.
Hilarious
Misadventures
From last-minute cramming to waking up thinking, What’s the
quadratic formula again? π€¦π»♀️, every day
was an adventure (or misadventure). There was the time I spent an hour revising
the frustum questions and later I realized it was cut off from the syllabus or
when I overanalyzed a classmate’s casual, “You’re revising Chapter 8, right?”
(I wasn’t).π¬
But there were also funny moments—like when I accidentally
walked into the wrong classroom on exam day or when I realized I’d been
stressing for weeks about a question that turned out to be surprisingly easy.
My favorite chapters in English were the two poems: Dust of Snow and Fire and
Ice. It always amazed me how brief the poems were but like every other English
teacher, my English teacher made us write a whole page of critical
appreciation. It’s almost like a universal rule, isn’t it? English teachers and
their love for over-analyzing! π€π
Survival
Tips for Board Warriors
My survival tips were to first calm down, then make a to-do
list for each day writing all your tasks you want to complete on that
particular day because following a timetable is never happening. Take breaks
and make sure not to use your phone because then the 15-mins break turns
into a 2hrs break! Stay focused, and let your break actually work for you, not
against you!π
Talk to your friends who are in the same boat as you.
Just remember that this exam is important but not your entire world. Shifting
your perspective will help you calm down and focus. Reach out to your
trusted seniors or anyone you know who can genuinely guide you—they’re absolute
game-changers. To all my amazing seniors out there, if you’re reading this, a
massive thank you for your support and wisdom! You guys are truly the best.❤️
So, to all the teenagers out there preparing for this
milestone, here’s my advice: don’t let the pressure consume you. Tackle
it one day at a time, keep your sense of humor intact, and most importantly,
remind yourself that this too shall pass.
At first, everything seems to be difficult but give time—time
to yourself and you will learn to live with it. Always remember time teaches to
live us in that situation and come out stronger and braver! π©·πΈ
I hope you all liked this little tale of mine and I hope my
tips will help you. Best of luck to all my juniors and the ones who have
already come out through this what’s your most unforgettable 10th-grade memory?
Share it in the comments—I’d love to hear your stories. I will see you all next
week !
Till then
Stay Unfiltered, Shwetaπ
